Annette Bening, Sir Ian McKellan and Sting all use the Alexander Technique to enhance their performance and stage presence.

Every day you 'perform' with your body when you drive a car, use a computer, exercise, write, cook, play an instrument, and so forth. Unconscious habits of tension can interfere with your activity and cause fatigue or pain. The Alexander Technique is a process for learning to coordinate movement, posture, balance and intelligence. It can help you understand how your mindset affects your muscles, and how your unconscious habits can sabotage your posture and well-being.

How does it work?

With an Alexander teacher's hands-on guidance and feedback as you perform simple movements, you can begin to perceive the habits that get in your way. You'll learn a new way of thinking that results in very different sensory experiences. You begin to stand tall without effort, breathe more fully, and move with more lightness and freedom. You learn to enhance your comfort and performance in all your daily activities, whether it's working at your desk, carrying your child or swinging a golf club.

Students of the Technique regularly report a decrease in pain and fatigue, improved coordination, increasing awareness and focus ... and quite often an extra inch of height!
