Certification and experience
I am certified by the
American Society for the
Alexander Technique
, and have been
teaching since 1990. In addition to my private practice, I'm a
guest faculty member at the
Alexander Technique School
of New England
, and at Stetson
University's school of music in DeLand, FL. I've taught
classes and workshops at Shenandoah, George Mason and Catholic
Universities. I'm a member of
AmSAT and the Alexander Technique Center of New
England.
I
played the French horn professionally for many years,
including several seasons with a German opera orchestra. I sang with
the Master Singers of Virginia, and continue to study voice.
I'm often asked to give workshops for private vocal studios. As
a great admirer of the art of dressage, I've taken
riding lessons and given Alexander workshops and lessons to
riders. As a new resident of Minnesota, I'm having fun getting to
know the Twin
Cities!
Why Alexander Technique?
I was first
attracted to the Technique's
wonderful ideas and possibilities for personal
growth, by attending a workshop and devouring books about
it.I was lucky enough to start taking
Alexander lessons before my tension habits started to
cause me significant
pain.
It transformed
the way I look at our behavior and the choices we make, as it
transformed my overall coordination. Soon after my training I
found myself hiking effortlessly up a mountain with an ease my
former aerobics career had never afforded me! Since then I've
been lucky enough to teach in many situations where I can use
my musical experience to help performers find their own clear
and open channels for communication and
expression.
I also love the variety of working
with people from all walks of
life.
Location
