What happens in a lesson?

I'll help you to explore your habits and reactions through simple activities such as sitting, standing and walking. During part of the lesson, you'll lie on a table and I'll help you to bring about a better distribution of muscle tension. Through gentle manual and verbal cues, you'll begin to perceive the ways in which you may be interfering with your balance and coordination. Together we can help you discover a more easeful way of thinking and moving. A typical lesson lasts about 45 minutes.

Tully’s certification and experience

Tully is certified by the American Society for the Alexander Technique , and has been teaching since 1990. In addition to her private practice, she is a guest faculty member at the Alexander Technique School of New England , and at Stetson University's school of music in DeLand, FL. Tully has taught classes and workshops at Shenandoah, George Mason and Catholic Universities. She is a member of AmSAT and the Alexander Technique Center of New England.

Tully played the French horn professionally for many years, including several seasons with a German opera orchestra. She sang with the Master Singers of Virginia, and continues to study voice. She is often asked to give workshops for private vocal studios. As a great admirer of the art of dressage, Tully has taken riding lessons and given Alexander workshops and lessons to riders. As a fairly new resident of Minnesota, she enjoys exploring the Twin Cities!

What am I learning?

By taking lessons and practicing what you learn, you gradually develop skill in using yourself with more poise and efficiency even without the aid of a teacher. By plugging in the Alexander thought process you can create your own 'new and improved' keyboard user, public speaker, yogi, weekend hiker...you name it. You also become increasingly able to apply your new skill to more complex activities such as playing a musical instrument with less strain and more power, grace and expression. Please see FAQ page: How many lessons do I need?

I offer introductory packages, and discounts to students and the underemployed. Please e-mail or call for rates and to schedule.
